Weekly Success Story: Northampton Leads the Way with Groundbreaking Inclusive Festival at Delapré Abbey

This week, we're celebrating a pioneering collaboration that puts Northamptonshire on the national map for innovation and inclusivity. In a UK first, Northampton's NN Fest is joining forces with 'The Disabled Adventurer' Nick Wilson to create a combined music festival and disability event at the historic Delapré Abbey on Saturday, 20th September.

This groundbreaking event showcases the very best of our county's community spirit and forward-thinking approach.

A Powerful Collaboration

The event merges the vibrant festival atmosphere of NN Fest, organised by Mo Sounds, with the cutting-edge technology and accessible adventure experiences of Nick Wilson's Access Outdoors.

The shared vision is simple but powerful: to make fun, outdoor events truly accessible to everyone. As Suzy Jones from MOSounds puts it, this shouldn't be a special one-off, "it should be the norm." Nick Wilson adds that the event is unique because it moves beyond a formal disability show and creates "a fully inclusive and fun event for everyone" by combining the healing power of music and the great outdoors.

Pioneering Accessibility in Action

This is more than just a festival with a ramp. The collaboration is a masterclass in creating a genuinely welcoming environment, featuring:

  • An All-Terrain Experience Trail: A stewarded route around the Abbey grounds allowing guests to trial cutting-edge all-terrain wheelchairs in a safe, fun environment.

  • Top Mobility Technology: A showcase of leading mobility suppliers and manufacturers, including the locally engineered, record-breaking RockClimber prototype.

  • A Mobile Changing Place: Provided by RevoLOOtion, ensuring dignified and accessible facilities are available for those with complex needs.

  • Dedicated Quiet & Sensory Zones: Run in partnership with local groups Sends4Dads and Northants SEND Mummas to provide a calm space for those who need it.

  • Full Festival Experience: Including an accessible viewing platform, live music, and representation from local disability coaching service, Empower Access Thrive.

A Win for the Whole Community

This event is a testament to what can be achieved when local organisations collaborate. Richard Clinton, Chief Executive of Delapré Abbey, said it best: “This event helps spark conversations and connections between different communities, showing how much can be achieved when people come together to share experiences in a special place like Northampton.”
