Weekly Success Story: Natalie Wood Triples Fundraising Target for Mental Health Charity

This week's success story celebrates Natalie Wood, who has raised an incredible £3,102 for Northamptonshire Mind - tripling her original £1,000 target through a community fundraising event.

The Challenge

After losing her younger brother Sam to mental health struggles and addiction in March 2023, Natalie was determined to break the stigma surrounding male mental health and alcohol addiction. Having fought her own mental health battles since age 15 and now sober for over six years, Natalie wanted to create positive change in her community.

The Action

In mid-July, Natalie organized a fundraising event for Northamptonshire Mind featuring:

  • Community barbecue

  • Raffle with prizes

  • Market stalls

  • Live rock choir performance

The Results

  • £3,102 raised - 310% of the original target

  • Over 500 attendees at the event

  • Massive community response with overwhelming support

  • Funds designated for men's mental health groups and alcohol/mental health awareness programs

What Natalie Says

"I went in with a target of £1,000 and I couldn't have asked for better than that. When we counted the cash, I burst into tears. I was so emotional and proud of what we'd achieved. I was blown away by the generosity and kindness of people. I don't normally feel proud of myself but I know we made a difference."

Looking Forward

Natalie is already planning her next fundraiser - a winter wonderland shopping experience at The Elgar Centre on November 15th from 3pm-7pm, featuring live music, food vans, and over 40 traders.

The Impact

Northamptonshire Mind was "astounded" by the amount raised and will use the funds to support men's mental health initiatives and raise awareness about the connection between alcohol and mental health struggles.

Congratulations to Natalie for turning personal tragedy into community triumph and making a real difference in mental health support across Northamptonshire!
