Local Success Story: Team Mates Project – Active Partnerships for Men’s Wellbeing

This month we took a giant leap toward a healthier, happier Northamptonshire by teaming up with Northamptonshire Sport and three powerhouse professional clubs—Steelbacks Foundation, Northampton Saints Foundation, and Northampton Town FC Community Trust. Together, we’ve launched Team Mates, an initiative that empowers men to look after their mental health through movement, connection, and honest conversation.

Why Team Mates Matters

Research shows that when men struggle to talk openly about their feelings, they’re less likely to spot the early signs of anxiety, stress, or depression. Team Mates turns that barrier into an opportunity:

  • Walking-sport sessions that keep things fun and low-impact

  • Post-game cuppas where the chat flows as easily as the tea

  • A safe, welcoming space to share life’s highs and lows

All abilities are welcome. Whether you’re easing back into activity, keen to make new friends, or craving a fresh start, Team Mates offers a gentler, sociable take on your favourite sports.
