Local Success Story: Spread the Love!

Amy Adams, owner of the sandwich shop Spread in Abington, is celebrating two years of business—an achievement she calls “surreal.” What started out as a single grazing table for her daughter’s birthday in 2019 quickly ignited Amy’s passion for creative catering. Before long, Amy left her job and devoted herself to growing Spread full-time.

Since opening the shop in January 2023, Amy has focused on fostering community. Spread’s fun atmosphere and generous portion sizes keep customers returning, and Amy’s commitment to supporting fellow independents means there’s always a variety of local sweet treats available. One of her favourite moments was National Sandwich Day 2024, when she and her team gave away more than 400 freebies to thank loyal visitors.

Spread’s menu is served Wednesday to Saturday, 9am to 2pm, featuring hearty flat sandwiches—classic, veggie, pastrami gherkin, tuna, and more—as well as a monthly special and a “Hample special” stuffed with Italian meats. Amy's next goal is to introduce a rotating seasonal veggie sandwich sourced from local businesses whenever possible. Through it all, she says the greatest reward is “being part of the community and creating something people look forward to.”
