Elevate Northampton September 16,2024

Issue 1: September 16, 2024

Inspirational quote of the week

Change won’t come without action. Chip, chip, chip, that’s how upstream victories are won. An inch at a time, and then a yard, and then a mile, and eventually, you find yourself at the finish line: systems change. Be impatient for action and patient for outcomes.” From the book, ‘Upstream’ by Dan Heath.

The purpose of the newsletter

The idea for this newsletter was born less than a week ago. However, the purpose of this weekly newsletter (the first of its kind that I can find - but correct me if I am wrong) is to Elevate Northampton into a UK business powerhouse.

It’s not a sales tool or self-promotional in any way; just damn useful for Northampton businesses. It will evolve and grow, and we’d love you to help us by sharing it with fellow Northampton business owners and making it your weekly motivation to showcase Northampton’s incredible businesses (there is also a share link below to win prizes!).

Please help us by adding your events and news. We don’t want to add something else to your ‘to-do’ list; instead, we want this to become part of your ‘help-me-get-it-done’ list.

So welcome. And thank you.

It's not looking too bad for the week ahead. It even warms up again on Thursday and the weekend. Maybe we could squeeze in one last sausage on the barbeque and a squirt of factor 15…?!

Weekly fun fact about Northampton

Northampton was once a capital city for nearly 200 years! It began as an Anglo-Saxon village called ‘Hamm Tun’.

Local success story

A brief profile of a Northampton business that's achieved a recent milestone or created something life-changing.

Denise Mackay at Jonny’s Happy Place in Kettering

Denise Mackay received recognition for her community service through the ‘Make A Difference’ award, which acknowledged her efforts in establishing a local gathering cafe. This initiative came in the wake of her son's tragic passing by suicide.

The nomination came from Ms Mackay's daughter, who highlighted her mother's unwavering dedication to maintaining and operating the community space known as Johnny's Happy Place in Kettering. Her efforts included public speaking engagements and fundraising activities.

According to her daughter, numerous individuals have expressed that the cafe has been instrumental in preserving their lives by providing a supportive listening environment.

Ms. Mackay shared, "Following Johnny's death in October 2014, there was a collective desire to create something meaningful in his memory. We've encountered many individuals with poignant stories. They feel comfortable approaching us because they recognise that we've experienced similar hardships."

Congratulations, Denise!
