Apricots: Aynho's Historic Currency

In a quirky historical twist, residents of Aynho, Northamptonshire, once paid part of their rent in apricots. Introduced to Britain in 1542 by King Henry VIII's gardener, apricots thrived in Aynho's favourable conditions, and villagers would offer part of their bountiful apricot harvest to the Lord of the Manor as rent payment.

Market Square Grand Opening: A Triumph for Northampton's Community Spirit

Excitement is building in Northampton as the town prepares for the grand opening of its revitalised Market Square next weekend, October 19-20. This event promises to be a spectacular showcase of local talent, culture, and community spirit.

The Family Zone, funded by the Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID), is set to be a major attraction. Children will be treated to circus workshops, balloon makers, illusionists, and face painters. Cllr Dan Lister emphasises the event's significance: "This grand opening weekend represents a major milestone for Northampton. We're excited to see how this transformed area will inject new vitality into our town centre."
